September 2006 -

After high school, I went to SRJC for one year. At the end of the year, my counselor asked me if I had ever considered the military. Still not being one for total commitment, I joined the Marine Reserves, completed my six months active duty at Camp Pendleton , then worked for Ampex Corporation in Redwood City for a year, and then returned to SRJC in 1968. I finished my second year at JC and transferred to Sonoma State in Spring 1969. I took most of the classes applicable to my major in one semester and summer session (the department was much smaller then), and then transferred to San Francisco State where I received my BA in Psychology January 1971.

In my senior year at SF State, I took a job with the Sierra Club and ended up working for them for seven years, finishing as their membership marketing manager. Along the way, I bought a six-flat Victorian in the Haight-Ashbury , decided I liked real estate, so changed careers and became a commercial property manager.

I have been married for 30 years this October to Kathy Green ( Lowell High School , Class of '69). We have lived in Saratoga for the past twenty-five years. I have been a manager for Cushman & Wakefield for the past seventeen years. My current assignment is property manager for Adobe Systems Incorporated for their headquarters buildings in San Jose and San Francisco. Kathy is a Spanish teacher at Santa Clara High School .

We have three sons, George, Christopher, and Michael. George just completed his MBA at the University of Hawaii . Christopher got the entrepreneurial bug and took a leave from UC Riverside during his junior year two years ago (majoring in business and creative writing), first to try his hand at leasing a pizza restaurant. That didn't work out, so now he and a friend have started a movie production company. So far, they have made one really good documentary. Michael just completed his second year at West Valley College while working at REI and as an assistant wrestling coach at Prospect High School . He has now transferred to UC San Diego; we helped him move last weekend. No grandchildren yet, nor daughters-in-law, either, for that matter. Not even any good prospects that I am aware of!

We've also been taking care of our great niece, Tianna, for the past couple of years (my older brother's granddaughter). She is twelve, doing well in school, and active in Girl Scouts, her church youth group, and she is especially good at soccer.

Besides work, I have been heavily involved in Scouting for the past eighteen years, Scoutmaster for the past thirteen (just retired). I had a troop of 85 Scouts (see photo). All three of our sons are Eagle Scouts. I'm now on the Board of Directors for Santa Clara County Council. I am also active with the Building Owners and Managers Association, International Facilities Management Association, US Green Building Council, and I have been a member of the National Ski Patrol for the past eighteen years at a little resort just outside of Truckee called Tahoe Donner.

My father passed away from lung cancer in 1967; my mother is just beginning to wind down at 87. She had triple by-pass surgery two summers ago, recovered for awhile, but now the body seems to be giving up. Too bad, because her mind is as good as ever! After the surgery, we moved her from Santa Rosa down to Saratoga to be near us.

I really enjoyed seeing you all at the reunion. I thought I got around to saying "hello" to almost everyone; then came back and looked at the pictures and realized I missed about a fourth of you. It wasn't intentional. (Some of you have aged matured and don't look quite like you used to!) I'm also enjoying all of the e-mail exchanges since the reunion! Quite a class! Not sure where you all find the time to write so much, however. Am I the only one still working?

See you all next reunion!
