Amelia's Obituary - The Press Democrat, Santa Rosa - June 28, 2008

URTON, Amelia Born Amelia Frances Castro, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 with her mother and daughter by her side. Born on November 21, 1947 in Stockton, CA to Henry and Marcella Castro. While growing up in Sebastopol, Amelia took on the role of caregiver while her parents worked; she could often be seen carting her four younger siblings around in a red wagon to visit her friends. After graduating from Analy High School she became a long distance operator for ATT for the next 30 years. Amelia had immeasurable talent and was a brilliant artist and craftsperson, her attention to detail inspiring. She won countless ribbons for her entries in the SC Fair and often won her division. Her artistic talents continued into her magical garden. She was a patient teacher of the nearly lost art of Spencerian Script. She loved all things Italian and named her teacup poodle Michelangelo. Known as "Sissy" to family and friends; her love of murals, angels and essential oils gave her home an ethereal quality that allowed all who visited a respite from the world. Always the curious and experimental baker, often the response to her question of what to give someone for Christmas would be met with an eager and hopeful "A box of your homemade cookies!" Amelia was a devoted and esteemed member of Shepherds Chapel Bible Study Group with an insatiable appetite for knowledge regarding God's love letter, the Bible. Amelia was a special daughter, a beautiful and kind mother to Colleen Morton (Phil), a thoughtful and supportive sister to Bob, Ken, Leonard, Nonie, Ron and Mary; cherished grandmother to Macie-Rae, Shelby and Abbigale; beloved aunt to David, Heather, Jimmy, Jonathan, and Jared. A gentle soul already profoundly missed by her family and loved ones, we wish her a speedy assent to join Jesus. Memorial will be held Monday, June 30 2008 at 10:00 a.m. For information call Lynzie 707 481-6335. Amelia's wish for donations: Save the Children Exploitation and Trafficking Protection Program.
